Exam Preparation

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT

ARRIVE AT LEAST 15 MINUTES BEFORE YOUR SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT TIME - If you are late for your appointment it may be rescheduled.

BRING ALL HEALTH INSURANCE CARDS AND INFORMATION - We will not bill your insurance provider(s) without this information.

NOTIFY US IF ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION HAS CHANGED - We need current and up to date name, address, telephone number and insurance information to complete your exam registration.

WEAR LOOSE COMFORTABLE CLOTHING - Please be sure there are no metal zippers, snaps or decorations. These items may interfere with your exam results. You may have to remove the follow items:

LEAVE VALUABLE ITEMS AT HOME - Lockers are available for personal belonging, however valuable items such as jewelry, money and personal electronics should be left at home or in your vehicle.

CERTAIN CONDITIONS MAY REQUIRE SPECIAL EXAMS - Please tell the nurse or technologist if you have any of the following conditions:

SPECIFIC EXAM PREPARATIONS & INSTRUCTIONS

CT SCAN

Most procedures may be completed within 30 minutes.
CHEST, ABDOMEN or PELVIS exam - Absolutely NO food four hours before exam. Water and regular medications may be taken as usual with water. Oral contrast may temporarily cause mild stomach upset or diarrhea.

IMPORTANT - If you are allergic to iodine, diabetic or have kidney problems, please share this information when scheduling your appointment.

CT ANGIOGRAPHY (CTA)
Absolutely NO food four hours before exam. Water and regular medications may be taken as usual with water. Oral contrast may temporarily cause mild stomach upset or diarrhea.

For some cardiovascular exams specific medications called Beta-Blockers may be required to control heart rate. Please check with your physician before scheduling your appointment.

IMPORTANT - If you are allergic to iodine, diabetic or have kidney problems, please share this information when scheduling your appointment.

VIRTUAL COLONOSCOPY
Lower GI and colon cleansing 24 hours before exam and limited diet. Absolutely NO food 24 hours before exam. Clear liquids only (water, tea, coffee, strained fruit juice) Regular medications may be taken with water, unless otherwise instructed by your physician.

IMPORTANT - If you are allergic to iodine, diabetic, or have kidney problems, please share this information when scheduling appointment.

MRI SCAN & OPEN MRI SCAN

Most procedures may be completed within 45 minutes.
NOTE: Please notify your physician and/or the imaging technician if you have any of the following: Stents, pacemaker, IUD, and any metal implants or pins. These objects may affect operation of equipment and/or results. Please notify at scheduling of claustrophobia so that we can address/manage any anxiety. You may need to arrive 45 minutes before exam for mild oral sedation, if appropriate.
ABDOMEN, CHEST, and MRA - Absolutely NO food four hours before exam.

PET/CT SCAN

Most procedures require up to two and a half hours to complete. ALL PET/CT EXAMS - Absolutely NO food twelve hours before exam. Water and regular medications may be taken as usual. NO exercise 24 hours before exam. Nurse will contact 24 hours before with specific instructions. Arrangements for transportation home are required.

IMPORTANT - If you are diabetic, please notify when scheduling appointment.

NUCLEAR MEDICINE

Most procedures require up to one hour. Some services may require more than one visit to complete all portions of the exam.
NOTE: Exams may not be performed within two weeks of any examination using Barium. Please inform physician if this is a possibility.

BONE SCAN - Requires two visits. 1st visit for injection, 2nd visit approximately two hours later for exam. Average exam time is one hour. There is no special prep for Examination. Bring Spine films if taken.

THYROID SCAN - Individuals taking thyroid medication must stop taking medication at least four weeks before exam.

ULTRASOUND

Most procedures may be completed within 30 minutes.
PELVIC and OB (Fetal) - Bladder must be full. Finish drinking between 40-48 ounces (5-6 glasses) of water one hour before exam. Do not use restroom before appointment.
ABDOMINAL - Absolutely NO food
